SPECIAL WHO’S OUR HERO? PROGRAM AT LOS AMIGOS SCHOOL

Although the Covid-19 virus caused a break in our regular after-school program for girls, we have recently opened a special 6-week online version of WHO’S YOUR HERO? at Los Amigos School in Rancho Cucamonga.

When offered the program, Principal Mrs. Amber Arreguin immediately said an enthusiastic YES, and began recruiting participants from among 4th and 5th grade girls enrolled at the school.  Nine young ladies were registered by their parents.  Parents received emailed instructions with the ZOOM link for the sessions.

Lisa Marie Fusco is the group mentor  She is an author, an artist and a musician – she even played her harp for the  girls!  The program emphasizes building confidence, mindfulness, creative arts, positive actions and exploration of future  life possibilities. Each session has an exercise break, and so far, the  girls and Lisa Marie have enjoyed doing the merengue on their break. WOTMN provided packets of art materials for each of the girls, to be picked up at the school.  The  girls  are eager to participate and to engage in thoughtful discussions about the topic of the day.  On April 22 it was Earth Day. The girls had a lot to say about the importance of protecting the Earth and what they and their family were doing to help.

We are very pleased that we are able to offer this alternative program now.  We are also looking forward to resuming our regular in-person  WHO’S YOUR HERO? programming in the fall.
